How It Works
Most visits are wrapped up inside an hour, including travel. Here's what happens from the moment you call.
1
A brief phone triage to understand the situation, rule out emergencies, and confirm your location and arrival time.
2
Typically within 40 minutes anywhere in Whistler. No waiting room, no ambulance bay, no paperwork queue.
3
Vital signs, physical examination, clinical impression, and first aid where appropriate. Everything explained in plain language.
4
A written care plan, referral if needed, and a full report ready for your travel insurance. Plus a check-in the next day.
What We Do

Fevers, gastro, respiratory complaints, allergic reactions — assessed in your room without exposing yourself to a waiting area.

Your Practitioner
Whistler Acuity is founded and operated by Michael Van Rooyen — a former Advanced Care Paramedic with nine years of frontline pre-hospital experience with the Queensland Ambulance Service in Brisbane, Australia.
Across those years Michael responded to thousands of injuries and medical events — from straightforward sprains and febrile illness to major trauma and cardiac arrest. That breadth of clinical exposure is what makes a thorough at-home assessment possible: knowing what to look for, what to rule out, and when something needs more than first aid.
Whistler Acuity is a private health consulting service in British Columbia — not a licensed BC paramedic or ambulance service. For any life-threatening emergency, please call 911 immediately.
Common Questions
No. Whistler Acuity is a private in-home health assessment service. We are not a licensed BC ambulance or paramedic service, and we do not respond to 911 calls. If your situation is life-threatening, please call 911 immediately — Whistler Acuity is not a substitute for emergency care.
In most cases, yes. We provide a written assessment report and an itemised invoice in the format travel insurers expect. You pay at the time of the visit and submit the paperwork to your insurer for reimbursement. We're happy to talk through documentation with your insurer if needed.
Typically within 40 minutes of your call for locations in central Whistler. Travel time to Function Junction, Creekside, and the valley extremes is usually similar. Pemberton is around an hour with a small surcharge.
Whistler Acuity cannot prescribe or supply prescription medication — that's reserved for licensed physicians. If your assessment suggests a prescription is needed, we'll refer you to a walk-in clinic or the emergency department and provide a written summary of our findings to bring with you.
Anywhere in Whistler — including Whistler Village, Upper Village, Creekside, Bayshores, Function Junction, and surrounding neighbourhoods. Pemberton is available with a small travel surcharge. Outside that range, please ask.
No — pay-as-you-go is fine for one-off visits, and most visitors use the service that way. Annual memberships are designed for local households who want predictable access throughout the year; they include a capped number of visits and a discount on additional visits beyond the cap.
